Box Office Films That are Making Headlines in August
‘Don’t Breath’ a psychological horror-thriller has surely scared the North America box office this August. According to early predictions, the film is set to earn above $9 million on Friday from about 3,500 theaters where it has the possibility of raking in over $20 million over the weekend.
With such a performance it can easily take the No. 1 spot towards the end of summer. The number to spot will probably go to Suicide Squad which has dominated the box office for three consecutive weekends and is expected to come in at between $10-12 million.
In the horror films category, Don’t Breath is the only film in this category that has so far prospered. It Friday haul will be added up with an impressive $1.9 million earned from previews on Thursday night.
As far as new films are concerned, the end of August weekend will have three new movie releases. They include a ‘Southside with You’ which is based on President Obama and Michelle Obama’s first date. The other two films are Jason Statham’s Mechanic: Resurrection and Roberto Duran’s ‘Hands of Stone.’
The Mechanic: Resurrection is a follow-up of 2011’s ‘The Mechanic’ which stars Jason Statham. The film is expected to gross somewhere between $5- million over the weekend from about 2,258 locations. Lionsgate will be launching the film in the place of the chief financier Millennium Films.
As for ‘Southside with You’ based on President’s Obama’s first date with his wife back in 1989 is expected to open at around $3-4 million in about 811 locations.
