NASA launches a $1 million contest “The Space Robotics Challenge” to prep Valkyrie for Mars
NASA, the US space agency, launched $1 million contest with the title of “The Space Robotics Challenge.” NASA through this competition is recruiting team, who will accompany the agency in developing Valkyrie for Mars.
The competition challenging engineers to develop software so it could be sent ahead of astronauts to prepare their habitats and make sure that the destination is safe to live in, or even to places too harsh for Humans. It challenges participants to program R5 with skills for aligning a communication array, repairing a broken solar array and identifying and repairing a habitat leak all in a virtual environment.
Valkyrie, also known as Robonaut 5 (R5), is 6 foot tall, 290 pound humanoid robot the agency developed for deep space missions. NASA says whatever technologies the teams develop will be transferable to their predecessors.
